Ride It Callander MTB 2014

Well this was going well until I went over the fucking handlebars coming down a hill! Luckily I fell into a muddy stream which cushioned the fall, but I still came away with a few cuts and bruises but worst of all I was wet now Can’t stand being wet it makes me very cold and on a cold day like this, this is a big issue for me, and I was only half way. I soldiered on but never got warm again, although I did eventually dry, until it rained All in all it was a good ride, well at least it didn’t kill me this time round, last time I did this it killed me twice over, but that was a far tougher route than this years. Anyhow made it back to the start knackered but not feeling terrible.

Another bright sunny day but that doesn’t belie just how friggin cold it is, and that would come back to bite me. Decided to do a loop around Dunblane and Sheriffmuir which was about 48 miles. After 3 hours of riding my hands, although wearing gloves, were numb and getting painful from being so bloody cold, and I still had another 50 mins of riding. Temperatures had dropped to zero and medium distance in the cold is never fun. Thankfully I made it home without frostbite and after a long and hot bath I’m feeling more myself.

Very windy and wet day so wasn’t going to ride far. Still came back with a cup full of water in my right boot! You’d think gore-tex boots would keep the water out but nope they let it in and keep it there. Thankfully the rest of me faired better with the driving rain hitting me in the face, only mildly damp. The wind certainly made for interesting cycling, trying not to get blown off my bike, but I was taking a reasonable sheltered route along cycle paths and quieter roads but as per usual riding against the bloody wind was a real pain in the arse, even on this short route.
