Ride 28/11/2021

Me, myself and I today, not surprising given the weather. It had snowed last night, it wasn’t deep but enough to put anyone else off but not me The main roads were wet but clear so I decided to do the usual Sunday bun run but skip out Knockhill as I wasn’t sure if it would be clear of trees and snow. I basically fallowed yesterdays route in reverse since I new it was clear. So I was at the cafe alone today and I made it as far as Kincardine but no further >:-( I punctured there and even with 2 spare tyres I couldn’t get any further. I checked the tyre for sharp bit bout found none but still once I put an inner tube in it punctured again and after 2 inner tubes were put in I ran out and had to call the cavalry to pick me up and take me home So 30 miles clocked up at 15 mph and an unhappy me at not finishing my ride.

Interesting days ride, the calm after the storm. Although its a clear day with some sunshine it’s still bloody freezing, even with 4 layers on, and some wind here and there. 8 of us on the bun run and after storm Arwen the roads were littered with debris and this would cause a few problems later into the ride. We were about 8 miles from the cafe stop heading up the B910 when we hit some fallen trees blocking our path. After some investigation, trying to walk around the trees we found that the entire road was blocked as far as the eye could see. So we had to back pedal down the road and take a detour through Alloa and Fishcross to get to the cafe stop. After the cafe stop we decided not to go the usual route up Knockhill given the high probability of more fallen trees blocking our path so it was up Saline and then back home. I did a little bit extra again to make up the 50 miles, down to Dalgety Bay and then back up to Crossgate.

Although it was a sunny day today it was pretty damn cold, not getting any higher than 5 degrees celsius, this also meant that there was only 3 of us today. With a bit of wind around we were headwind most of the way to the cafe stop so it was nice to stop for coffee and cake This did mean we would have a tailwind home and this kept our pace up all the way back home. No extra miles today, 50 miles was my target again, just looking to maintain my fitness through the winter.

Bit of a windy dull day but it didn’t rain so that was good. The usual bun run today with 10 of us. The same deal as last week I followed the group until we were over Knockhill and then parted ways to head to Kelty. I was a bit short on millage today so rather than heading to home from Kelty I headed north and up to Loch Leven and followed the road on the south shore round to Billingry and Lochgelly before heading home just to make sure I hit the 50 mile mark. With the wind being an westerly I had a tail wind blowing me home so I was able to get a decent speed as well as my millage so overall it was a good days ride

Today there were 7 of us, not a bad turn out for Sunday, and with the weather similar to yesterday minus the sun, we had a decent day for cycling. Usual route to the cafe stop and afterwards but with the road still closed we went the cycle path via Crombie Point. We then split to head back to Dunfermline, with half of us going back the coastal route and the other half going back the normal route. I did a little extra just to get me to the 55 miles mark and we also managed to get a decent avg speed today of over 16 mph

A good day to be riding, sunny, little wind and no rain. Good turn out for the bun run this morning 18 of us. We had a slight detour due to Culross road being closed due to road works, so we headed out via the Oakley way to Clackmannan and then picked up the usual route to the cafe stop. The route home was different too, due to the shorter route through Oakley we went the full route up Knockhill via Dollar. Once over Knockhill I went my usual way home via Kelty but did a loop around Ballingry since it was such a nice day so some extra miles were definitely on the table So in all 57 miles clocked up at an avg speed of 16 mph, a good days ride.

The better weather day for cycling as it’s not raining but still very windy today but at least it was sunny. So headwind all the way to the cafe stop but at least there were 6 of us so we took turns up front. After the cafe stop and once we hit Kincardine I would be crossing the river to do some extra miles. I was looking to do 65 miles today so I parted ways with the group at Kincardine. Thankfully by this point we had a tailwind so it was fairly easy going towards South Queensferry. The winds had died down a bit by the time I crossed the Forth Road bridge and just to make sure I got my 65 miles I headed a little bit into town and past Amazon on my way home. So I clocked up 65 miles at 16 mph, that will do me

Well it’s a very wet and windy day today but surprisingly there were 9 of us out today. It was a strong headwind on the way out this morning but it did start dry but about and hour it it started to rain and didn’t stop all the rest of the way round. Thankfully I was prepared for this so it wasn’t too bad today but it did have a dramatic affect on my speed today I only managed to get 15 mph avg, although I was riding with the group, I would have gone faster on my own just to get out of the shite weather quicker Tomorrow is supposed to be a better weather day so hopefully I’ll get a bit more distance and speed.

Well I was expecting this to be a very wet and windy day and dressed accordingly, it certainly didn’t turn out that way. It actually stayed dry and we had sunshine as well and the most surprising thing was the temps which got up to 14 degrees, so I was a bit over dressed and had to lose a layer to not overheat. Given the weather forecast, which turned out to be a bit off, I was only expecting a couple to turn up but 5 turned up eventually. We decided to go an alternative route to the norm, so skipping out Knockhill and heading for Saline we rode to Stirling where we stopped for our coffee break. After the cafe stop we headed over the river and followed the coastal route round to Kincardine bridge and then returned the normal route with us splitting up at Cairneyhill and me continuing along the coastal route to Inverkeithing and back up to Crossgates and home. It turned out to be a good ride today thanks to the weather so 56 miles clocked up at 16 mph

Well it’s back to normality this week with the Saturday bun run. I was surprised at how many turned up today, 17 which given the rather dull, damp weather, was quite a good turn out. We split into 2 groups and headed for the cafe stop. By the time we got to the cafe stop it had started to brighten up a bit but also the wind was picking up. After the cafe stop I did my usual little extra to get me to the 50 mile mark, thus clocking up 50 miles at an avg speed of 16 mph.

Ride 17/10/2021 100 km Randonee

Today was the last of the clubs organised ‘longer’ rides, with today’s being around the 100 km mark. It’s a wet day, not torrential rain, but a consistent flow but thankfully not too cold either, with my wet gear on I stayed reasonable dry. We headed over the river and for the “Bathgate Alpes” just south of Falkirk, my old stomping grounds. I was familiar with the route so I knew what to expect. We stopped at Beecraigs for our cafe stop and then headed on quieter roads for South Queensferry where we would be crossing the Forth road bridge. With 8 of us today, due to the not so good weather, we then headed up to Crossgates and split to our own ways home. I decided to do a little loop to get the 65 miles I was after but over all we were a bit slow today averaging 14 mph which to be honest I didn’t mind after nearly a full week of cycling

Ride 15/10/2021 Portugal Day 6

Well it’s my last day in Portugal and the time has flown again. Today we only had to do 60 miles to complete the ride a 15 mphnd it was an easy 60 miles mostly downhill with a couple of small climbs. Throughout this trip we were following the N2 road (National Road 2) which stretches 739 kilometres from Chaves in the north all the way to Faro in the Algarve in the South. We’ve been lucky from what the guides tell me it usually rains in the first 2 to 3 days in the north but we’ve had sun all the way As much as I was disappointed not to do the North Vietnam ride this year I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how mice a ride this one was. There was just enough distance and elevation to keep me interested and challenged over the 6 day ride and I am glad to have done this one.
