Ride 05/06/2016 Evans Cycles Rite It Lanark

Well it’s the perfect day to go cycling, hot sunny day all day long, and as luck would have it I was doing the Evans Cycles Ride It event in Lanark today. Given the weather today I opted to do the long route of 80 miles rather than the medium route I had entered for. It was well worth the effort, a good ride with not too many hills but a bitch of a 14% hill 3 miles from the finish. I didn’t stop too much as I was against the clock, had to be back to the finish before 17:00. I actually shot our of the starting blocks but slowed slow in the hills and the last 20 miles I was a little on the slow side, but I clocked up the 80 miles in just over 5 hours so I’m pleased with that. No doubt next week it will piss down.

Ben Cleuch

It’s far to sunny a day to not do some cycling It’s been a while since I’ve gone up Ben Cleuch (highest hill in the Ochils) so today seemed like the perfect day. Still a bloody tough ride hence the 5 mph avg but just kills for the views you get up there. But the best part is the ride down again

It started out as quite a dull day with little wind but actually turned out to quite nice after 14:00, of course by this time I was well on my way home. Anyway I rode down to Carnwath, just west of the Pentland Hills and followed the hills until Balerno. Then headed northwest up to the outskirts of Edinburgh and turned west heading back home. It was quite a hilly ride say for the last 20 odd miles or so but if the sun had been shining all day it would be quite a scenic ride. Riding on mostly quiet back country roads and my Garmin played nice today so I have the full ride data, hope this lasts. Next week I’m doing the Evans Ride It event in Lanark so that should be a good ride as well if the weather holds up.

So today was the better weather forecast day, which was why I was at the cinema yesterday. Garmin responded to my email and suggested I completely format the device which I’ve never done before, I’m still a bit skeptical but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Did a loop around the forth, a reasonably quick one but not my fastest. The garmin didn’t crash so I suppose thats a good thing but only time will tell.

Well it was a nice day today, good for cycling, but unfortunately my garmin crashed again!!! So angry with garmin now and have sent of an email about it. What pisses me off more was my edge 800 worked flawlessly for 5 years which is why I went for another one, but now I have serious doubts. Anyway todays ride was a loop around Loch Leven which would have been a 72 miles ride taking roughly 5 hours. Ironically I did this ride on 09/05/2015 last year but going counter clockwise, this year was clockwise. It’s a nice ride especially with good weather and last year I stopped on the Loch for lunch but this year it was in Lumphinnans. It was here when having lunch I realised the Garmin had crashed again, so a good ride spoiled by CRAP! hardware

Ride 30/04/2016

Mixed bag of weather today, wind, rain, hail on the higher parts and some sunshine, thankfully most of it light or short so I didn’t get too wet. Did a loop around Stirling heading first up over the Campsies hills along the Carron valley and onto Fintry then down to Kippen. Then over Dunblane and up the Ochil hills to Sheriffmuir and back down to Blairlogie. Followed the foothills along to Tillicoultry and swung south to Kincardine and over the bridge back home. On a good weather day this would be a nice ride but it was a little bit on the cold side for me.
