It’s quit a nice day, I even got sun burnt on this ride so I decided to do the Full Ochils Loop which ironically is only around 20 miles longer than the half loop that I did last week I even managed to time it well that it started to rain just as I got home so lucked out their. 6 weeks left to my China ride so will keep up the miles until then

Bit of a dull windy day so I planned a ride to the Glasgow end of the Union Canal, I’ve been to the Edinburgh end, but not the Glasgow end. Now having never ridden this before I was relying on my garmin course, but unbeknownst to me the course would take me on some serious off road cross country routes, which would not do with my road bike!. If I had my mountain bike I could have saved myself a 10 mile detour but I didn’t and thus I had to do some backtracking and try another way of getting there, hence the funny route I took. Anyway I made it in the end and I would have gone back the way I had came if it were possible but I opted to go via the Canal some of the way and once I hit Kilsyth I was back on the road.

Well it’s the perfect day to go cycling, hot sunny day all day long, and as luck would have it I was doing the Evans Cycles Ride It event in Lanark today. Given the weather today I opted to do the long route of 80 miles rather than the medium route I had entered for. It was well worth the effort, a good ride with not too many hills but a bitch of a 14% hill 3 miles from the finish. I didn’t stop too much as I was against the clock, had to be back to the finish before 17:00. I actually shot our of the starting blocks but slowed slow in the hills and the last 20 miles I was a little on the slow side, but I clocked up the 80 miles in just over 5 hours so I’m pleased with that. No doubt next week it will piss down.

Ben Cleuch

It’s far to sunny a day to not do some cycling It’s been a while since I’ve gone up Ben Cleuch (highest hill in the Ochils) so today seemed like the perfect day. Still a bloody tough ride hence the 5 mph avg but just kills for the views you get up there. But the best part is the ride down again

It started out as quite a dull day with little wind but actually turned out to quite nice after 14:00, of course by this time I was well on my way home. Anyway I rode down to Carnwath, just west of the Pentland Hills and followed the hills until Balerno. Then headed northwest up to the outskirts of Edinburgh and turned west heading back home. It was quite a hilly ride say for the last 20 odd miles or so but if the sun had been shining all day it would be quite a scenic ride. Riding on mostly quiet back country roads and my Garmin played nice today so I have the full ride data, hope this lasts. Next week I’m doing the Evans Ride It event in Lanark so that should be a good ride as well if the weather holds up.

So today was the better weather forecast day, which was why I was at the cinema yesterday. Garmin responded to my email and suggested I completely format the device which I’ve never done before, I’m still a bit skeptical but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Did a loop around the forth, a reasonably quick one but not my fastest. The garmin didn’t crash so I suppose thats a good thing but only time will tell.
